Do you find reading hard?
Adults who find reading hard can feel ashamed and try to hide their problem instead of seeking help. There is nothing to be ashamed about!
Reading is a skill like driving or swimming or knitting - it has to be learned. Sometimes factors we cannot control affect our ability to learn skills. Perhaps we have an extra difficulty to deal with. For example, a left-handed person may struggle to learn to knit. A person who is afraid of water may find it harder to learn to swim. Dyslexia, eye issues and other conditions can make it harder to learn to read.
It is also easy to fall behind with reading if you miss some or all of your schooling or if you had issues in school that took up your attention.
It is never too late to get help with reading. At a dyslexia centre or adult literacy class, no one will mock you or laugh at you.
